Ghana to Host Major UN Linked AI and Robotics Events to Empower Teachers and Young Innovators

Accra, Ghana, 18 March 2026 — Ghana will host two major artificial intelligence and robotics events in May 2026, marking an important step in expanding future-ready education, strengthening teacher capacity, and promoting youth innovation across the country.

On 15 May 2026, the AI and Robotics Youth Training Programme: Training of Trainers Workshop for Teachers in Ghana will take place at the National Communications Authority Tower in Accra. The workshop forms part of ITU’s AI for Good initiative, delivered with the generous support of Google.org and in collaboration with the ITU-UNICEF Giga initiative.

On 16 May 2026, the momentum will continue with the Robotics for Good Youth Challenge Ghana at Ghana International School, Accra. This national event forms part of the global Robotics for Good Youth Challenge, organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and The MakersPlace, in partnership with Google.

Together, these two events will bring educators, students, institutions, and national partners onto one platform to strengthen AI and robotics education in Ghana, while opening pathways to global participation and recognition.

The Training of Trainers Workshop is designed to equip secondary-level educators with the knowledge, practical tools, and confidence to introduce foundational artificial intelligence and robotics learning to students aged 10 to 18.

Participants will engage with a blended curriculum covering AI literacy, coding and robotics fundamentals, digital ethics, and project-based learning. Following the workshop, teachers will receive ongoing support and digital resources to help implement the programme in their schools.

The Robotics for Good Youth Challenge Ghana will showcase the creativity, technical ability, and problem-solving skills of Ghanaian students as they design, build, and programme robots to address this year’s challenge on agriculture and food security. The event will serve as the official Ghana qualifying tournament for the Grand Finale at the AI for Good Global Summit 2026 in Geneva.

Winning teams in the junior and senior categories will have the opportunity to represent Ghana at the global finale in Geneva, Switzerland. Selected team members and mentors will receive travel and accommodation support, access to summit passes, international networking opportunities, and global media visibility.

The events are being delivered with support from key national partners, including the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI), the National Communications Authority (NCA), Ghana International School, Ghana TVET Service, and Ghana Digital Centres Limited. Their participation reflects Ghana’s growing national commitment to practical digital education, innovation, and the development of future-ready skills for the digital economy.
