Ahtoo Montessori School, one of our valued partner schools, is representing Ghana at the North Tyneside and Northumberland FIRST LEGO League Challenge in the United Kingdom. According to the official tournament information, Ahtoo Montessori School 1, Ghana and Ahtoo Montessori School 2, Ghana are both listed to compete on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.
This marks an important moment for the students, the school, and for us at The MakersPlace. It reflects what is possible when schools invest in hands on STEM learning and curated competition pathways that give children the chance to grow beyond the classroom.
The event will take place at the Village Hotel, 10 The Silverlink North, West Allotment, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE27 0BY. Organised by Education North Tyneside, the tournament is part of a much bigger regional programme. The organisers state that they are running five FIRST LEGO League Challenge events across the North East of England, with around 100 teams, 100 volunteers, and more than 750 students expected across the full series.
FIRST LEGO League Challenge is designed to test students across four equally weighted areas: Robot Game, Robot Design, Innovation Project, and Core Values. Teams are expected to programme an autonomous robot, explain how their robot was designed and improved, present a live innovation project linked to the Unearthed season theme, and demonstrate strong teamwork and communication throughout the competition.
The day itself will be full and exciting. Registration opens at 9:15 am, teams must arrive by 9:35 am for the opening ceremony and safety briefing, and robot game rounds and judging begin at 10:10 am. Lunch is scheduled for 11:45 am, afternoon activities continue from 12:30 pm, and awards are presented at the end of the tournament day. The organisers have also confirmed that all students will receive certificates and medals, alongside category awards including Innovation Project, Core Values, Robot Design, Robot Performance, Judges Award, Outstanding Coach Award, and Champions Award.

For Ahtoo Montessori School, this is more than participation in a competition. It is a learning journey that gives students international exposure, practical experience, and the confidence to present, collaborate, and solve problems on a global stage. These are the kinds of experiences that help young people become creative thinkers, capable builders, and confident future leaders.
At The MakersPlace, we believe competition pathways should do more than prepare students for one event. They should open doors. They should help schools build a culture of innovation. They should give learners the confidence to apply what they know in real situations.
Ahtoo Montessori School’s participation in this UK tournament is one strong example of that vision in action.
We also acknowledge our partner, Amarew, for its valued role as an extended partner and authorised representative of The MakersPlace outside Ghana. Through this partnership, Amarew supports our international operations through event coordination, local logistical management, regional representation, and approved financial transactions carried out on behalf of The MakersPlace.
There is also more at stake beyond the regional event. The official tournament page states that the champion team from each tournament day will be invited to the FIRST LEGO League Challenge Great Britain Final at the Harrogate Convention Centre on Saturday, 25 April 2026. It also notes that successful teams at the national finals may go on to attend international FIRST LEGO League events around the world.
We are proud of Ahtoo Montessori School and the students representing Ghana. Their journey is a reminder that when children are given the right support, they do not simply prepare for the future. They step forward and begin to shape it.
